Anyone here ever had this done? I have been having abdominal pain and the verdict is to get a colonoscopy. I know the procedure isn't painful but for some silly reason I'm afraid to be sedated, even though I am sure it will feel fine once the stuff kicks in. I can't seem to get a straight answer from the nurses as to if I can take Ativan (lorezepam) on the day of the procedure, they say they would prefer I didn't but to just take .5 the night before if I need it, I am afraid that I'll need it the day of though.
I wonder if anyone here may have experianced this and has advice to offer.

Mon, May 5, 2008 - 3:44 PMi know that will help once the drug is in me, but the funny thing is that it's the anxiety leading up to the shot that scares me, I like sedation once it hits but i am afraid of being sedated, lol so silly i know. -

Thu, May 8, 2008 - 9:44 PMboth my parents have had it and were put in twilight sedation and were fine. If you take the ativan the day of, just be sure to tell the anestisiologist. I think that's the most imp. thing Personally, I'd go for it and take day of. but don't have personal experience with it. -

Fri, May 9, 2008 - 9:51 PMWhy do they call these "routine exams"? For all the anxiety, they are anything-but-routine! When I went for my mammogram earlier this week, the tech said "Don't be scared" which is probably the worst thing to say to an anxious girl with an appendage in a vice :D -

It's so much more comforting when a medical professional is detailed in telling you what is going to happen step by step and what it might feel like or what level of pain or discomfort you might feel. I'd much rather deal with the truth and facts than someone doing the "don't" stuff! -

my psych. doc in some cases has no idea of what i'm talking about when i refer to things i've seen on the web regarding a.d.d. and meds and so on ... wish more docs were always enthused to know more and know whats on the cutting edge of treatments for psych. ills and so on ... I think too many docs are just there for the paycheck and probably Rx-ing themselves things like oxycontin and other ......

Mon, May 12, 2008 - 2:20 PMI was ok until the tech said she needed to take an extra picture. Quiet riot! Face is hot. Hands icy cold. The last time a tech said she had to take an extra-picture, I had my gallbladder ripped painfully out by a surgeon with all the bedside manner of nazi Dr Mengele. Scarred for life that incident -- both inside and out! I didn't know I would react to the mammogram. But for me "just one more picture" -- isn't. You are so right cyndasoo; "Don't" doesn't help. I have a year before I have to deal with it again. -

Sun, May 18, 2008 - 6:48 PMGood advice. I suppose I do have a choice of technicians around town but like so many of us living the anxious life, I second-guess myself. What is "normal" and what is an overreaction to "routine" tests. Sigh of relief that all is fine, but that extra photo hurt!
