According to Dr. Norman Shealy, magnesium and taurine are essential nutrients that are sorely lacking in depression and anxiety patients and in the general population. He gives more info on his site about which forms of magnesium are better assimilated. He came to my attention when I heard his interview on a podcast called "Theatre of the Mind" -it's free on itunes- subject title "Depression". He also mentions the Liss CES machine and one other device for relaxation as an effective treatment. His site is normshealy.com. He also has a book out on stress relief.

Re: nutrient lacking...
Thu, February 7, 2008 - 8:20 PMI had been given the same advice, I try to get it in my diet, but still take a supplement of 500 mg, I talked to my doctor about it and he was the one that recommended both the dosage and also to add omega 3 at 4000 mg to my diet. Even though he is still treating me with drugs, he is very big on limiting pharmaceuticals as much as possible, and pushing diet, exercise and supplements. I rather not suggest a brand, because there are as many opinions as there are brands, just know that not all supplements are all they are cracked up to be, so read up before you grab something off the wall at Walgreens.
